SUMMER DISCOVERY WEEKS 2024
Registration is open
Each week is a different theme and each day a different topic. Every day, children will explore and learn about the natural world. *Some weeks have a field trip.
All summer discovery programs run from 9am-3pm. Aftercare is available until 5pm.
For aftercare pricing information please email bjaycox@sweetbriarnc.org. Aftercare must be booked the week before the program begins.

Fantastic Furry & Feathered Friends

Children will learn all about what makes our furry and feathered friends so special. They will meet some of our animal ambassadors while participating in hands on activities.

Animal Investigators
Week of July 1st-5th
Week of August 19th- 23rd
This week, children become a wildlife investigator and discover the amazing adaptations that exist in the animal kingdom through various activities and hands on interactions. *This program is for the younger children ages 6-8y

Week of July 8th-12th
Nature crosses into science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics in this discovery week children will “dive” into airplanes designed after raptors, the honeycombs of a beehive, birds eye views from a drone, and design boats to test on the river. *This program is for the younger children ages 6-8y

Big S.T.E.A.M.er’s
Week of July 8th-12th

During this week, children will go on adventures along the Nissequogue River, they will go on a stream trek to waterfalls and learn about animals and nature through guided exploration.

CHILDREN MUST BRING WATER SHOES AND SNEAKERS. CHILDREN WILL BE IN THE WATER EVERYDAY SO PLEASE PACK A CHANGE OF CLOTHING AND A TOWEL. CROC’S ARE NOT WATER SHOES AND WILL GET STUCK IN THE MUD AT THE RIVER.

Do you love baby animals? Learn how to feed and care for them by a licensed rehabilitator. This is a very hands on program. Take field trips to other rehabilitation facilities and find out how to become licensed. THERE IS A TEN CHILD MAXIMUM AND IT FILLS UP FAST.

Explorer’s Club (Ages 12y-15y)
Week of July 22nd- 26th
Week of August 12th- 16th
We will go beyond the borders of Sweetbriar to explore new frontiers. Kayak the Nissequogue, hike the greenbelt trail and explore the forests, wetlands & beaches of Long Island. A camp out with barbecue, campfire, and night hike brings the week to a close.
Some field trips will incur an additional charge

Amazing Animals
Week of July 22nd -26th

Children will meet many of our resident animals, search out wildlife on the preserve and be involved in fun activities as they gain a better understanding of the animals with which we share the earth with.
