Winter Weekend Programs 2018

Pre-registration is required for all public programs unless specified.    Scouts and members receive a $2 discount for each person in their family for all weekend programs other than special events like our Spring Festival and Wildlife and Craft Fair.

Searching for Sweetbriar Sam – a Groundhog Adventure

Come find out if Sweetbriar Sam is planning to hibernate for another 6 weeks or predict an early spring.   We will have a fun scavenger hunt to learn some facts about groundhogs, play with shadows, and meet some other animal hibernators and animals with different solutions for cold weather.  Make a fun groundhog craft to take home.

When: Sunday, February 4, 1pm

Who: Families

How Much: $10/child and $5 for adults, $2 discount for scouts

 

 

Winter Discovery Days for ages 5 to 11

 

 

Once again Sweetbriar Nature Center will be offering daily natural science programs over the school breaks elementary school children..   Each day will be a different natural science theme.  Each day is chock-filled with fun hands-on activities, interaction with our residents, non-releasable wildlife, crafts, games, and much more.   Parents can register their child/children for one day, two days, three days, four days, or the entire week.   Themes from Monday to Friday are Famous Animals, Slytherin,  It Is Always Summer Somewhere,  Let Sleeping Bears Lie and Winter Wonderland.

When: February 19 – 23, 9am to 3pm daily, after care available until 5pm for an additional charge

Who: Children ages 5 to 11

How Much: $70/day, $300/week for members, $80/day, $350/week for non-members 

 

Early bird discount until February 1

 

 

Creatures Of the Night

Visit Sweetbriar to meet some nocturnal animals and embark on a walk into the darkness to enjoy the night and maybe call in an owl or two.  Dress warmly and bring a flashlight just in case.

When: Friday, March 2, 7pm

Who: Adults (Teenagers welcome)

How much: $10 /person

 

 

Sweetbriar Summer Program Open House

Sweetbriar will offer children and parents an opportunity to tour the facility including visiting our rain forest room and woodland exhibits, learning more about our summer programs , and meeting some of our resident animals.  The Program Director will be available to answer any questions. Refreshments will be available. 

When: Saturday, March 3, Noon to 4pm

Who: Families with children 3 to 17

How much: Free

No pre-registration required

Slither on over to Sweetbriar to see a selection of several ssssensational serpents.  Participants will meet several snakes and learn about their unique adaptation through games and other participatory activities. Create a cool snake craft to take home.

When: Sunday, March 11,  1pm
